A blog about a new website for people with old cars

Does the world really need another old car website?

without comments

Arguably not.

There are a heap of websites for people who love cars — places like cardomain.com and boompa.com. There are also plenty of sites with information on old cars, from club websites (UK Volvo Owners’ Club, MG Owners’ Club, etc) to a few all-marque directories such as motorbase.com and uk-classic-cars.com.

But somehow these didn’t give me what I wanted. The club websites (I have a Volvo Amazon and a Chevy Camaro) were fine and all that, though they massively varied in quality, but didn’t allow that I’d be interested in any other makes.

The all-marque directories seemed just that, directories, with nothing to keep me interested beyond a few clicks, and saturated with advertising too.

And the big one-size-fits-all sites like cardomain.com didn’t get that owning an old car is not the same as owning a new one, whether it’s a bodykitted Beemer, or chipped JapBox.

So, I decided to roll-my-own: Autopendium. Like my Volvo, it’s a work in progress, and will be developing over the next few months. But already it works for me (and a few of my friends).

We get to keep a running record of our old cars, share information of the models and marques we love, and keep track of other people’s vehicles we like. Hope you like it.
